Too....beautiful.....can't....think....of....words.....

I know this is a new relationship, but you might have figured out by now that I LURV anything that's rose cut. No, scratch that - AM OBSESSED - with anything rose cut. And it's a pretty rare cut (but is quickly gaining popularity! yay!), mostly because it's old fashioned and not as brilliant as most people nowadays would like. But I'm a fanatic. Which is why when I find sites like Conroy & Wilcox that kind of specialize in it, I basically poo in my pants. And then am worn out from that and can't think of the right words, words that would do these jewels justice. So, forgive me, but you're just going to have to look at the pretty pictures.

Weekend Finds

These are my weekend finds! The first one is a locket ($8), although the man at the antique store said it also may have been used to hold powder and a puff. The second one is a wicked cool lion pendant carved out of tortoise shell on a 12k gold-fill chain. The flip-side of the pendant is opposite in colors, so it's much lighter with dark accents. I got it at a school's yard sale ($3). And, lastly, is my German candy necklace. My sister bought me this one after I ogled it for a while. It's so springy and sparkly. It has a chunky yellow clasp that has "Made in Germany" stamped on it ($10? Not sure, she wouldn't tell me how much it was!).
Overall, i'd say it was a very successful bargain-finding weekend!

Wanna look like a mobster from the 80s?

American Apparel bought the remaining stock from an Italian factory named Esse-Pi, and are now selling the chains exclusively. They are gold and silver plated, and made between 1970 and 1985. The necklaces and bracelets are AA-style all the way, being unisex and very '80s and all. I'd recommend that if you buy these, be careful with them as they are gold- or silver-plated, and that can tarnish easily. Now go get your neon windsuit out of storage (or buy one at AA!) and slap on a couple of these badass chains.

Stylish First Lady??

Wouldn't it be nice to have a stylish first lady?

Last night Mrs. Obama attended the Nordstrom and Vogue cocktail party for New Yorkers for Children, and wore a fabulous Tom Binns necklace. I think her entire look is spot-on: in my opinion, when you do a ginormous necklace like this you need to keep the rest of your outfit simple. She looks great! And bravo on owning/wearing Tom Binns, Mrs. O! His jewelry is wikkid cool!

Effing Adorable.

How EFFING cute is this?

I found it on Reform School and Mixco. Both, btw, are very nifty sites.

Today's Want

Today's Want:
This FABULOUS rose cut chrysophase chain from Irene Neuwirth. It's set in 18 kt gold and is 50" long, which gives you endless wearing possibilities. I can see this necklace going casual with a tank and jeans, or oh so fancay for a night out.

Chrysophase is one of my favoritefavorite stones, due to its color and luminescence. Rose cut is my favorite cut, so, you see, I neeeeed this. It's only *cough* $17, 320 *cough*.

Officially Obsessed.

I am officially obsessed with Lydia Courteille. Her work is simply stunning. It reminds me so much of Lalique - it's very old world-y and rich and sumptuous. I'm drooling on myself trying to describe these pieces.

From my research, I've found that she's most well-known for her rings, but also creates fabulous necklaces, earrings and bracelets. Also, she apparently incorporates antiques into her work, and some of her stones date from the 16th century! Dang.

She apparently has a dark side, too. Check out this wikkid diamond skull ring in black rhodium.

Here's a list of some sites that carry her work:
Also, here's a link to a video where some lady (Susan Tabak, we hates her!) gets to try on some of Ms. Courteille's jewelry at her store in Paris!

Ok, this is redonkulously delicious: Ylang23 (one of my favorite jewelry sites) has just launched an ESTATE JEWELRY PAGE. Whatwhat. Prices range from $600 - $28,500. We can always drool.
A few of my favorites include: the rose gold watch bracelet, these fire opal and diamond earrings,
this gold and diamond knot ring and this sweeeet gold honeycomb bracelet with diamond moons! Diamond moons people!

New designer alert!

Enrique Muthuan

EM is Argentinian-born, resides in NYC. His designs are fresh, and blur the line a bit between masculine and feminine (a huge trend this season - guys are going girly!), with rough metals, dainty charm, gorgeous stones and vintage skulls. All of his amazing jewelry is hand-made. One of my favorite pieces is this Argentinian coin ring. Definitely a statement piece, but subtle enough to not have to be worn alone. These moon earrings are also stunning -- neo-tribal/hippy, I'd say. Love, love, love the long necklaces, especially the "EL SOL."

On a wild island or in the city, EM's designs are breaths of fresh air.

Obviously I could drool over this Web site forevs - check out the rest for yourself!

Jamie Joseph

I've been obsessed with Jamie Joseph's designs for about four years now. I can remember seeing her jewelry for the first time on www.twistonline.com and being blown away. Her trademark is rings with huge, somehow juicy-looking stones; stones like mint green topaz, peruvian opal, rose quartz, carnelian, london blue topaz and every color of chalcedony you can imagine. Being a self-professed ring maniac, I felt like I had found the holy grail.
Ms. Joseph not only creates rings, she also creates earrings, bracelets and necklaces. She's an all-around artist, who's been designing since college:

"Her (JJ's) affinity for unusual stones later led her to enroll in jewelry design classes at the University of Kansas. In 1999, she attended the New York Jewelry Institute to gain a more intense understanding of technical metalsmithing. In 2004, she personally developed a signature texturing technique called glaciering to give a new element of depth to her designs. Today, she continually hones her skills through repetition, experimentation and regular critiques from Master Jewelers and peer designers. " (http://www.jamiejoseph.com/bio.html)

She's definitely one of my favorite designers, and if you'd like to check out some of her work, here are a few websites that carry her line:

And, finally, here's a picture of my very own Jamie Joseph creation! I waited four years for this, baby! It's a rose-cut, mint green quartz surrounded in 14k gold and on a sterling silver "bark band," which means the top and bottom of the band looks like a branch. LOVE IT! Wear it every day! P.S., it's really hard to take a good picture of jewelry. This picture does my ring no justice!

Thanks for reading.

I've decided to make this blog about something I'm really interested in - jewelry. I'm always on the lookout for new and beautiful baubles, up-and-coming designers, and want to share what I'm finding. Hopefully this blog will become a place where people who are interested in jewelry can come and find what's new and what's beautiful.
